'Why are you doing this?' - Frankly we're struggling to make ends meet here especially since the site got more popular. The only way we can think to cover our costs is to run ads, but if so many of you keep blocking them..

'But I never click ads!' - Doesn't matter, you should only click them if they interest you. We get paid based on the number of views AND the number of clicks.

Another fact - We have the software and the power to completely block adblock users from our site, but we're not going to, at least for now. We figure most of you would like to support us and you only installed Adblock because of other sites that aren't so considerate with their ad placement. Please, don't punish us because of them, in the seven or so years I've been a blogger/webmaster I've ALWAYS considered the need to balance monetisation with reader experience. I want to build an audience not send them away.

So go on, whitelist us and any other site you love. If it wasn't for ads, the internet would lose a whole chunk of really great niche content like this, which would be a real shame in our opinion.

Now, go ahead and read the page if you want to, but wouldn't it be much more convenient if you just whitelisted us? :)

Movie tie-in games are often poor quality, rush-job affairs, but Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (herein referred to simply as King Kong) is actually a polished and very playable effort. Blending elements of survival horror and first person shooters, you play as both Jack Driscoll as he explores the mysterious island and later in the game as King Kong as he explores (and trashes) New York.

Starforced not to play

King Kong is unplayable on Windows 8 and 10 machines. The reason for this incompatibility is sadly because the game includes one of the most notorious copy protection schemes ever inflicted on PC gamers. The Starforce copy protection uses its own low-level driver. If you do try to install and play this game, be warned that Starforce can cause system instability and other problems and is even considered a form of malware by many users. For a more detailed explanation, see this link.

Other users on the internet report being able to get the game working in Windows 7 by using a cracked executable (one with the copy protection removed or at least bypassed in some manner) and updated Starforce drivers. This will not work in Windows 8 or Windows 10 and you try it at your own risk in Windows 7.

The only possible way to get the game working again in Windows 8 or 10 would be to completely remove the copy protection. It is against site policy to link to game cracks or similar software, though we can tell you our efforts to remove the copy protection proved fruitless. It’s sad and somewhat ironic that the only people who could possibly still play this game are the people who pirated it.

King Kong is a platform game programmed by Karl T. Olinger for the Atari 2600 and published by Tigervision in 1982.[1] Based on the licensed King Kong character,[2] the game is a clone of the first screen of Donkey Kong.[3] It was Tigervision's first cartridge release.[3] Tiger Electronic Toys produced a handheld version, licensed to Tandy, the same year.[4]

Gameplay[edit]

Peter Jackson's King Kong Game

The objective is to rescue the girl by climbing ladders to the top of the screen while jumping over holes and autonomous bombs.[2] Magic bombs are worth five times the points of regular bombs when jumped over. As in Donkey Kong, each level has a bonus that counts down. If it reaches zero, a life is lost.

There are settings for 1 or 2 players alternating turns, slow or fast bombs, and whether magic bombs exist.[2]

Reception[edit]

Ed Driscoll reviewed King Kong in The Space Gamer No. 58.[5] Driscoll commented that 'Overall, it's a fun-to-play game, with some good graphics. Not bad for a first cartridge!'[5]

King Kong Video Game Movie

Electronic Games said, 'It presents a crude imitation of Donkey Kong's first scenario and replaces the barrels and flame creatures with what look like old-fashioned toilets, some of which have lit fuses.'[3] In a 4 out of 10 review, Arcade Express wrote, 'This climbing game is marred by a poor rendition of the giant ape,' and 'King Kong is somewhat easier to play than other climbing games.'[6]
